M6 Motorway Services
We all need to stop on a long drive: for a rest, a drink or something to eat, the toilets, fuel, or to charge an EV. Our M6 services pages help you find the nearest services on the M6, which side of the motorway you can reach them from, and what you will find when you get there.
There are fourteen places to stop on the M6, from Rugby at Junction 1 to Todhills near the Scottish border. Most can be reached from both directions, but not all of them, and on a road this long that can matter.
Services on one side only
Four stops on the M6 do not work the way most drivers expect. Burton-in-Kendal is northbound only, and Killington Lake a few miles further north is southbound only. At Stafford the two sides are separate sites run by different companies, and at Tebay the northbound and southbound sites are not linked, so you cannot cross to the other side.

Nearby, but not on the M6
Norton Canes is on the M6 Toll, between toll junctions T6 and T7, not on the M6 itself. It is run by Roadchef. At Junction 20 there is also Lymm Truckstop, which is aimed mainly at lorry drivers rather than being full motorway services.
Check the traffic before you stop
If you are planning a break, check the latest M6 traffic news first, so a closure or queue does not come between you and your stop. You can also see M6 roadworks, M6 closures tonight and every junction on our map of the M6 junctions.
Service area details were checked against more than one published source in September 2026. Outlets and facilities change, so check with the operator if you are relying on something in particular.
